+1 on the above advice....also, try to turn the spur all the way so that you can see the pinion teeth work its way over all of the spur gears teeth...i had one part of my spur gear in my old 8ight that wasn't as worn as the other sides so my gear mesh was fine until it hit the un-worn spot.....and from the looks of your pinion, it really might be a slight bend in the mount or chassis that flexes a bit too much when you land from a jump or hit the throttle...just my 2cents.. :)
