Personally to me it doesn't really seem like there was a problem with the motor when you got it. You said it did 71mph in 100ft without reporting any temp issues, so to me it sounds like the motor is good at that point. Then the center diff carrier fails and causes the center diff bearing to fail as well and also chew up the spur gear. That's going to put a lot of shock loads onto the motor, especially if it happened at high rpm. I wouldn't be surprised if the motor was damaged at that point. Even if it was a brand new motor you were using it could have been damaged then. It was only after that point that you noticed a problem with the motor, which makes me think there wasn't a problem before.
I'm sure if cheescake thought there was a problem with the motor he would just send it to neu, and not make it hard for him to sell anything else on a couple of different forums.

Should be an interesting car though once it's got a new/repaired motor in it, definatly needs a video.
