There is a good reason the battery side is now direct soldered wires. If for any reason the battery side leads get pulled and the plugs come out of the esc you have 2 live male plugs just begging to touch together so the sparks can fly. I almost did this while trying to unplug my battery once. I now have mine cable tied in so they can't pull out of the esc no matter what.
