Was thinking Ti would have great wear resistance. I'm assuming the drive pins in the ends that go into the drive cups are what wear so quickly?
I'm not gonna be able to get myself to run these now. Looks like I'll be on the hunt for a steel set. I keep seeing people mention the Stainless UE CV's, but I've never actually seen any?...are these even more rare than the Ti ones?

The drive pins can be changed if they wear out although i believe they are steel even on titanium cvds. The area that wears fastest is the area where the barrel goes in.
The stainless were the old version before Robin at ue found that the black oxide steel was actually better and last longer.

I actually did find a thread on the UE forum last night after I posted this, where Robin commented and said something very similar to what you just said.
So do the steel ones rust if the black covering gets scratched off/removed? I didn't see anything said about this, so I was just curious.

Common sense, is not so common.

The black oxide is just like the coating on the hex screws. They rust easily.
I would say the TI are the rarest. I have a set of 6mm TI and a set of 8mm TI, but I have 5 sets of stainless. No steel for me
aha! Now we know who has all the SS sets!
Since I want to actually run the truck I'm building (and can't get myself to ruin a set of the Ti UE CVs), I would be interested in a trade for a SS set.
Just in case anyone out there might have a set of SS UE CVs they wish they could turn into Ti

So I decided to keep my Ti 6mm CVD's and not run them.
And gumleguf hooked me up with a nice black oxide Steel 6mm set (+2 spares actually). Thank you sir!
He had 5 complete, and 1 missing just the barrel that connects the shaft and the axle. So if anyone has any of these barrels, and would be willing to spare 1 or 2 of them, so I can complete the 6th CVD, I would be very grateful

Finding spare barrels would be like finding gold for the people that run the UE axles. I don't actually run mine, so I have no issues with what I have. I know of a few people though that would like to have some extra barrels.

ok then! Somehow I guessed that would be said by someone.

I have heard this material is very hard to come by... Not just a clever name!
I had some UE parts banging around a while back. I may still have them, although it has been years since I have seen them and have no idea where they would be. In fact I have quite a few non-traxxas mfg maxx parts that may be of interest to the maxx collectors. I will have to dig them out and post them up. My only maxx left is the 6x6 with tein torpedo chassis. I run the cheap ebay cvds (chrome plated steel shafts) and they seem to do fine with my lower speed high torque outrunner setup. Or I use lst 1 cvd shafts and cut/weld them to length. Slightly ghetto but my trucks are no for show anyways. They have been sitting on the shelf for quite a while so maybe they are shelf queens now. Kinda sad!!
